College Football Top Ten (week 8)

What a wild weekend in College as top 10 teams Georgia, Washington, Penn St and West Virginia all lost.  With all those losses the top 10 has had a big shakeup and we all know the upsets are just beginning.  So let’s get to the top ten for this week with the power rating in parentheses.

1.) Alabama (104)
Not a lot to say here they are by far and away the best team in college football and could be in the running for the best team of all time.  Tua absolutely must be healthy and he is a little banged up right now after the Missouri game.

2.) Ohio St (92)
The good news is that Dwayne Haskins is the best QB Urban Meyer has had since Tim Tebow and the best I can remember at Ohio St in a long long time.  But the defense is really not good at all and if they want to beat Michigan and get to the playoff its that side of the ball that needs to be much better.

3.) Clemson (91)
Trevor Lawrence looked much better against Wake Forest 2 weeks ago and Travis Etienne is a very good RB.  We will see how the offense looks after a bye week going up against a good NC St team.  Give Lawrence another 6 games to get ready for the playoff and my guess is the Tigers will be very hard to handle.

4.) Michigan (90.5)
I know they had a slip-up and almost lost at Northwestern but this the best team Harbaugh has yet.  Patterson looks comfortable in this offense and the Wolverines have the best defense in the country.  There are a couple more hurdles, including one this Saturday, before they travel to Columbus on Nov. 24th.

5.) Notre Dame (90)
Since Ian Book became the starter against Wake Forest on September 22nd this looks like a different team.  But man do I wish Michigan and Notre Dame could play now.  I think Michigan would win but it would be very close.  Regardless, the Irish look like they are headed to the playoff so we may get that rematch.

6.) LSU (89)
What does LSU have to do to earn the respect they deserve? Every time this year they beat someone they aren’t supposed to it’s a yeah but… They have far exceeded expectations and are on the verge of cracking this top 5.  The defense is elite once again and they finally have a QB that deserves to be playing D1.  Joe Burrows is by no means great but is good enough with the defense they have in Baton Rouge.

7.) Oklahoma (89)
Like Ohio St, the Sooners are a team with a high powered offense where defense is optional.  I am really curious to see how they rebound this week at TCU as both teams are coming off surprising defeats and I expect a close one in Ft. Worth. If Oklahoma struggles again they will be on the outside looking for a not only the playoff but a berth in the Big 12 championship.

8.) Georgia (87)
There were 3 teams this year I was down on more than most, Georgia, Penn St and Auburn.  The reason was simple, they just lost too many key pieces and only Alabama can lose half their starters to the NFL draft and act like nothing happened.  Georgia is really good but not great.

9.) Washington (86.5)
I don’t understand how Jake Browning can go from being a really good QB as a sophomore to bad as a senior.  Washington is similarly built to LSU and basically the opposite of teams like Ohio St and Oklahoma.  Washington does still have a great defense but it’s not as good as LSU and the QB is worse than Burrows.

10.) Texas A&M (86)
Is the annual Texas A&M slide coming?  We will see but it feels different with Jimbo Fisher at the helm and his old school offense.  Maybe that Kevin Sumlin dude just wasn’t a good coach.  Have you seen Arizona play??  I think A&M is the 3rd or 4th best team in the SEC.  Next week they will get a good test traveling to StarkVegas.
